Everything You Need to Know

Women's suffrage is a well known topic for some but others have no clue what went on. Especially when it comes to women's fashion and the role it played during the time. Women who were fighting for their rights would have an outward appearance that reflected the goals they had in mind. A white dress, corset and sachet was a popular outfit for suffragettes, the sachet was purple and green (sometimes gold) which also represented the ideologies they held. I didn't touch on it much but women also wore pants as a protest to men having more rights than them in the society. most of the time they wore them they were either not allowed to wear pants or were looked down upon. Even though they were supposed to have the same rights as citizens that men did, it wasn't reflected in everyday life. They also wore pants because according to social norms the woman was supposed to stay at home and the man was supposed to go and work for the family. Giving way to the term wearing the pants of the family, this term was primarily used referring to men and women would wear pants to show that they could also be the breadwinners and pants wearers of the household. Womens fashion and what they wore tells a story of rebellion against a patriarchal society that gave women less thought than men. What they were is what they are and shows the world they won't stand for injustice any longer.
